Horizontal and vertical structures: the foundations of social interaction
Horizontal interactions emphasise equality, mutual respect, and cooperation. Vertical interactions involve top-down leadership (guidance from authority) and bottom-up agency (challenging authority when necessary). These tensions exist everywhere—in our bodies, personal relationships, organisations, society and geopolitics.
